As K-12 achievement index is one of the ways to measure the success of an educational implementation in a state, former reports have shown that Florida continues to provide great K-12 education, resulting in high achievement standards. After maintaining 4th place in K-12 achievement for two consecutive years, Florida has successfully made it to the top 3 states in 2020. The state’s achievement grade also improved to B-, which is higher than the nation’s grade of C. With Florida in the first year of a three-year transition from Common Core Curriculum to its Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T) Standards, it is expected that K-12 students in Florida can continue to advance in national rankings.
Besides amending the standards, 18 school districts in Florida have participated in Districts for Impact to identify what’s working in one school district. The results will be shared with other districts, with the goal to provide the best practices and learnings for K-12 students in Florida.
