Online learning, also known as e-learning, has been rapidly growing in popularity in recent years. It provides learners with an opportunity to access educational materials and courses from anywhere in the world at any time, as long as they have an internet connection. This flexibility allows individuals to pursue their education while managing their personal and professional commitments. Moreover, online learning can be customized to suit the unique learning style and pace of each individual. One of the biggest benefits of online learning is its convenience. This eliminates the need to travel to a physical location, saving time and money. Furthermore, online learning is often self-paced, allowing learners to complete the coursework at their own speed, and giving them the freedom to balance their studies with other commitments. As the world becomes increasingly digital, online math tutoring is likely to continue to grow in popularity.
What Does the Research Say About Online Learning?
The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the adoption of technology in education, as institutions were forced to shift to online learning to comply with social distancing guidelines. This shift has had a significant impact on the traditional learning process, and there is a need to reduce its impact as much as possible. This entails reshaping our view of higher education, including the needs of both institutions and students.
One of the advantages of online learning is that it encourages independent learning, making education student-centered rather than teacher-centered (Faculty’s and Students’ Perceptions of Online Learning During COVID-19, 2021). Students are now encouraged to use additional resources to discover their abilities as independent learners. The success of face-to-face instruction, on the other hand, relies on regular class attendance, while the success of interactive classes depends on completing interactive worksheets. Therefore, both online and face-to-face instruction can be successful, depending on the curriculum structure, mode of delivery, and completion rate. Online learning has proven to be a useful tool for learning, as it is cost-effective, flexible, and provides access to world-class education (Bartley & Golek, 2004). It has a positive impact on both students and teachers, and both groups have optimistic opinions about online classes.
The study by Frontiers (2021) made a survey to get students’ feedback on online learning. This study evaluated the effectiveness, challenges, and advantages of online teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that students found online learning to be effective due to efficient online platforms and adequate technological skills. Additionally, online learning allowed for flexibility in participation and reduced expenses related to traveling. However, students faced various challenges, including adapting to online learning, accessing the proper internet, and managing time and homework. Despite these challenges, online learning has advantages such as flexible learning, cost reduction, and self-paced learning. The study suggests that while online learning has its challenges, it can be a useful alternative to face-to-face instruction.
MathProject’s Success Stories
Childhood friendships can be some of the most enduring relationships in a person’s life. Such is the case with three boys, Faizan, Asher, and Brynner, who have been friends since the 1st grade. Initially, their reason for joining was to spend productive time with friends online, particularly during the pandemic, and to obtain additional math assistance as the public school system lacks a robust math curriculum. While they faced some initial challenges, over time, they began to understand the material better and started to succeed in school. These three boys have a strong friendship and determination that helped them to overcome their difficulties with math. Despite attending different schools and facing different challenges in their lives, these three friends continued to encourage and support each other throughout their academic journey.
Their success in the online math class not only brought them closer as friends but also gave them the confidence to tackle other academic challenges they faced. “After joining MP my confidence in math at school is improving. I get better grades in school”, is what Asher said. “I’m really grateful that my parents signed me up. Without MathProject, I don’t know where I would be in math”, is what Brynner said. All three students are still friends today and keep improving in math in school and at MathProject.
Math Tutor VS Math Program
Although here at MathProject, we consider ourselves to be a “math program” rather than a math tutoring company. This is because we have our own curriculum that we teach and we do not help students with their homework in class. We still offer the same benefits of online tutoring though, such as flexibility and convenience. Our program is designed to offer a comprehensive and personalized learning experience to our students and our curriculum is tailored to the individual needs of each student, especially for high school, ensuring that they receive the attention and guidance required to succeed. Our team of experienced instructors commits to providing the best possible support to our students, and we continuously strive to improve our program and teaching methods. So if you’re looking for a math program that offers more than just tutoring, MathProject is the perfect choice for you.
